biography
'..a singer’s singer.
..'
Belinda is a singer/songwriter who captivates her
audience with the kind of heartfelt singing and stage presence of someone
beyond her years.
Her powerful yet soothing style combined with a gusto performance takes
her audience through all styles of song - versatility is Belinda’s
trademark.
The beginning...
She put on a pair of tights and taps at the age of 5 and
studied modern dance and tap for the next 7 years. This was followed by
a vocal rendition of 'Crazy for you' by Madonna at her 6th grade primary
school concert. Her performance was so well received, her parents put
her straight into singing lessons as it was obvious this was Belinda’s
true love.
Over a decade of extensive vocal training followed with one of Australia’s
leading vocal tutors, Mr Neil Williams O.A.
Through the years...
During this time, her teacher gave her a piece of advice
she would never forget. “Try everything at least once in your
career and do it with devotion and eagerness!”
She did just that and found a great enthusiasm for recording.
While she now calls the studio her second home as she has become a 'veteran'
session singer, and performed on various albums (Award winning singer,
songwriter, producer Stewart Peters, solo, The Beanie Kids, Soundtrack
Album, Motion picture songwriter Nikko, solo and her own debut album)
her live performances are her passion - combining movement, acting skills,
amazing vocals along with a delightful sense of humour - audiences sit
up and listen.
At 18, Belinda joined a vocal trio called 'Emerald Hush' playing the club
circuit singing hits from the 50’s through to the 80’s.
A short time later...
She took an interest in theatre and performed in various
musical productions for the Parramatta Theatre Company. This is when a
love of music from the 40’s and 50’s became evident to her.
If you happen to catch Belinda performing live today, this era of song
is quite evident in her repertoire. But versatile she is.....
Moving into a different area, Belinda began working with
various charities including such companies as the Variety Club of Australia,
the Cancer Council and Club Speranza (the prevention of youth suicide)
providing musical entertainment, even traveling to the outback to sing
over the CB Radio for the students of School of the Air.
Again changing direction, Belinda auditioned and received
the part of principal vocalist in the international floor show Cabaret
Revue traveling to Atami City, Japan and completed a 6 month contract.
She learnt a little Japanese whilst there.
On her return...
Not being one to rest, Belinda took over as Lead vocalist
in the international Cabaret/Rock band The Family Von Trapp who were later
nominated for an Ace Award (Australian Club Entertainment Award) for Best
Variety Show Band. There she remained for three and a half years studying
during the day at College and completing Certificates I and II in a Music
Industry Skills & Management Diploma course.
This is where Belinda found an interest in writing original material.
She wrote various songs and followed this with a debut performance
of her material at Darling Harbour Amphitheatre for the FAT-Fresh Aussie
Talent showcase for Famelink.com which was sponsored by Mp3.com and 96.9FM.
One of her originals, 'Adios Farewell' is currently receiving airplay.
Deciding to then go solo, Belinda started up her own business
aptly naming it Vocalartistry Ltd working freelance. This included hosting
children’s shows, jingles/voiceovers, resident compering, band &
duo/trio fill-ins, corporate events (Parramatta National Rugby League
Corp, Rosehill Racecourse, Denlo Group, BMW) television and radio performances
on the Midday Show, 2DayFM and Ground Zero (Ugly Phil 104.1FM), 89.9FM,
96.1FM (promotion for Famelink.com), 1269AM.
She also made an appearance with renowned vocal tutor/singer/songwriter
Shauna Jensen at the Food and Wine Festival 2001 in Sydney.
Currently...
Belinda is currently working the Club circuit nationally
in her own solo cabaret style show. In a very short time this has earned
Belinda nominations in Best Female Vocal& Best New Talent in 2003/2004
with a win in the Best New Talent category 2004.
She was a finalist in one of Sydney’s premier cabaret
events, the Sydney Cabaret Convention of 2001.
Belinda also teaches vocal techniques at the Tammy Worth Academy of Dance
& Arts in Castle Hill and also gives private tuition.
